Why are Humans Lazy?

That’s my question of the day. (QOTD)

Have you ever seen a 6 or a 7-year-old kid being lazy about something? Kids that age don’t know what laziness means. It’s only until they grow older that they realise that they don’t need to be active all the time. They realise that they can procrastinate once in a while. Some kids do take the procrastination too far. How often did you study only the night before the exam? Or how often did you hear your friend say the same? It starts with “I’ve got a lot of time. The exam’s not until next month.” Then “It’s fine, I’ve still got a week left.”. And bang. You suddenly realize that only one day is left and you’re in your bed praying God and telling him to pass you in the exam. Almost everyone has done this, except for a few people(nerds).

Take this, for example, 00109479.843.14159265. Most of you didn’t read every number in the previous line and I get that. Why would you? It doesn’t matter to you. But if you go back and read the numbers carefully, you’ll find the numbers for π(pi) in there.

We, humans, are inherently lazy as a race. Even I am guilty of this trait. I’m one of the laziest persons I know. I am so lazy that I was procrastinating to write on this topic. I am so lazy that I didn’t want to put any effort into thinking of an important topic. Instead, I settled on laziness.

Back to the question though. Why are humans lazy? I’m not talking about why a single person is lazy. I’m talking about why the human race as a whole is lazy. I’ve gotten different answers to this question. One person said that we’ve inherited innate laziness from or ancestors. Since they were hunter-gatherers, they used to move from one place to another for food and shelter. During this process, they rested a lot to save up energy for the next trip. Which makes sense.

The other reason, which amuses me, is that we’ve started to grow more impatient. Now I know that technology takes a lot of blame from people for several things. So I thought, why not blame it once more. It’s not like it will bother it. We’ve got access to so many different things. And the speed for accessing these things has increased rapidly in the recent past. We’ve become a dependant species. We’ve lost the sense of independence. When you don’t depend on technology as much as you do, you realise that you were way too dependant on tons of irrelevant things. Then you start dwelling on the past where you were dependant on your phone or your laptop for something and you didn’t have to work very hard. So eventually, you just give up on what you were doing.

Ah, I’m too lazy to finish this post. Just think of some appropriate ending for this post for yourself.
